🔯 The “best field in golf” returns to TPC Sawgrass, and we’ve scoured the markets for data-driven Players Championships tips. Now that Meridith has officially banned Scottie Scheffler from any involvement in the kitchen, the three-peat is on. Stick around for value bets, bookmaker promos and the best odds, just in case it all becomes too hottie for Scottie.

2025 Players Championship Golf Betting Odds
꧙ We’re earlier than Shane Lowry to a pub crawl with our Players Championship betting odds, but as soon as the markets go live, we’ll drop them in a table below. Bookmark this page so you don’t miss them.
The Players Championship Betting Tips & Predictions 2025
𒉰 The switch from May to March, made in 2019, caused a huge difference in the course set up. Florida’s springs are a far cry from the cold we’re sitting in at home, but it’s wetter than usual, softening the course and changing the dynamics of the event.
🔴 As a result, the draw is crucial, but more on that later.
🅰 Our tips are based on data. Sure, we use our expert opinion to gauge how the field might fare, but we also want the numbers to back up each of our Players Championship tips.
🌊 As a result, we’ve gathered and analysed every metric from 2019 to 2024. Coincidently, this ties in with the re-design of TPC Sawgrass in 2017. Don’t you love it when a plan comes together?
INFO
🌠Strokes Gained (SG) is a metric that highlights if a shot is better or worse than the average. The baseline is zero and can be used across multiple groups, including Off-The-Tee (SG:OTT), Approach (SG:APP) shots, Around the Green (SG:ATG) and Putting (SG:Putting). Positive numbers indicate that a shot was better than average, while negative numbers indicate that the shot was worse. It’s a great way to decipher how well a player performs without simply looking at their final score or finishing position.
Scottie Scheffler to Win
Scheffler’s Players Championship golf betting odds will be painfully short, as he duels for an unprecedented third win in a row at TPC Sawgrass. All the data suggests Scheffler can do it. In the epic battle with Schauffele, Harman and Clark in 2024, he led the field in Strokes Gain Off the Tee (SG:OTT), Strokes Gained Tee 2 Green (SG:T2G) and Stokes Gained Total (SG:Total), hitting an incredible 44/45 fairways. 2025 shows no signs of slowing down. He cruised to a T9 at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Amꦛ, gaining +2.04 shots on Approach and +0.44 Off-The-Tee. He also showcased his new “claw” grip – a common go-to for the yippy putters on Tour. Early signs were good, gaining +0.64 SG:Putting. If that putter gets hot, he might be uncatchable.
Rory McIlroy to Win
💛OK, we get it. The two least imaginative Players Championship betting tips have just landed on ThePuntersPage. Rory or Scottie to win. How insightful. In addition to be coming off a “decent” 2024, Rory’s win in 2019 highlights that the course suits his eye despite some mixed results since. Since 2019, the winner has averaged 34th in the field for Driving Accuracy and 12th for Driving Distance. Rory is first in Driving Distance for 2025 (336.6 yards) and was second in 2024 (320.2 yards). The boy’s a bomber and if he can keep these big numbers , is Scottie’s biggest rival.
Hideki Matsuyama – Top 5/10
It’s hard not to love Hideki. He’s been on the PGA Tour since 2010, speaks excellent English away from the cameras, but flat out refuses to – mostly – do interviews. Got to respect that from H-Dek. He’s got game, though, and he loves TPC Sawgrass, with three top-10 finishes in his last four starts. Only Scheffler (+3.00) and Dechambeau (+2.43) have gained more strokes at the course than Hideki (+2.40) since 2019. He’s consistently been in the top 15 on The PGA Tour for the last four seasons, averaging +0.499 strokes per round, and has hit the ground running in 2025 with a win at The Sentry, coupled with notable places at the Sony Open and Farmers.
Additional Players Championship Betting Insights
🎉 We want to enable you with the tools to create your own bets. How? By investing a huge amount of time into our tips for The Players Championship, while understanding that you want to have a swing for yourself. Here’s a look at what you need to know to make your own picks, using the knowledge, data and tools we rely on for ours.
Key Golfers to Watch
🍰 With a field stronger than Tyson Fury’s chin, The Players is a tough tournament to call. Even though we are several weeks away from the first tee on March 13th, aside from injuries/withdrawals, it’s relatively easy to predict who’ll be there. Think the Grammys of golf but without the lip-syncing. Here are some of the golfers to look out for:
Scottie Scheffler
Official World Golf Ranking – 1
🍷 Scheffler will be hard to beat this week. We’ve spoken about the three-peat, but it’s very much on. He gains three strokes per round at TPC Sawgrass, and one of those includes a missed cut in 2019 – before he worked out that he could swing a club while dancing like Elvis.
Rory McIlroy
Official World Golf Ranking – 3
ꦫ McIlroy is Scheffler’s main threat. Since his win in 2019, he’s only had one top-20 finish and two missed cuts, which is not ideal. But he’s bang in form. The win at the AT&T Pebble Beach was incredibly impressive, as he dismantled a field that will be of a similar calibre to The Players. He’s the longest in Driving Distance on Tour this season, and if he keeps it in play off the tee, he will be right down the stretch come Sunday.
Ludvig Aberg
Official World Golf Ranking – 6
A Swedish stud and the best export from the Nordics since ABBA. This kid has a serious game and is undoubtedly a future major winner. He finished 8th here, in 2024, in one of his first pro events. Aberg is imperious off the tee – 4th in Total Driving on Tour – and great with the irons, a killer combo around TPC Sawgrass. He needs the putter to heat up, but he will be close if he can get it rolling.
Si Woo Kim
Official World Golf Ranking – 67th
🍌 “Si Woooooo, shaking that a….” we’ve all heard it, but Si Woo is more than just a cringy song conjured by Spieth & Co. This is a pure data pick and one we love. He’s a former winner (2017) and has two top-10s in his last four starts here. A better ball striker, ranking 14th in Strokes Gained Approach to Green, 20th in Driving Accuracy, and 27th in Scrambling. Putting is an issue (140th on Tour), but he likes the Bermuda greens, and confidence is so huge for these guys. Check out each-way betting or to place the top 5/10.
Shane Lowry
Official World Golf Ranking – 18th
🍒 If Lowry could design his perfect golf course, it’d look like TPC Sawgrass. Not too long, imagination and shot shaping a must, water to negate his lack of length of the tee, which he makes up for in accuracy and warm Floridian sunshine (Jokes, he’s Irish). The 2019 changes to the setup have helped, with three top-20 finishes following. For the fellow data nerds, he ranks 1st in Proximity to Hole this season, a metric with the highest average position (most important) for the last five winners. Runner-up to McIlroy at the AT&T, and nine top-13 or better finishes in his last ten starts, confirms that Shane-o is one to watch.
Joel Dahmen
Official World Golf Ranking – 209th
෴ Our wildcard pick is Netflix’s Full Swing superstar, Joel Dahmen. He is one of the streakiest players on the Tour, but this unpredictability makes him a prime long-shot candidate, especially with two top-12 finishes in the last five years. For 2024, he was 1st on Tour for Proximity to Hole (33’ 5); as you know, it’s a key metric. Putting has been an issue. He was almost DFL last year (181st – yikes!) but has worked hard in the off-season and is gaining +0.682 strokes on the field for putting in 2025 (22nd), while adding around 5mph of ball speed to gain distance with the big stick. There are a ton of possibilities when the Players Championship golf betting odds are released in the next few weeks, but we’re favouring a top 10/20 finish, which should offer decent value.
A Deep Dive into TPC Sawgrass: Course Analysis for Punters
༺ TPC Sawgrass is the home of the PGA, and The Players is their flagship event. Located in the stunning Ponte Vedra Beach, North-East Florida, it’s a bucket-list location for golf addicts, including the pros.
♔ Legendary golf course architect Pete Dye crafted the initial layout in 1980 before Steve Wenzloff, with the help of Dye, completed the redesign in 2017. The tournament shifted from May to March, changing grass types from the much-disliked Celebration Bermuda Grass to Champion Fine Ryegrass. As a result, Runoff areas are less penal, meaning errant shots are not punished as harshly, allowing the pros to be more aggressive.
🌌 At 7,275 yards, TPC Sawgrass is one of the shortest on Tour, but understanding its layout is essential to crafting winning Players Championship tips. Its defence is water on 17/18 holes and small green complexes, averaging just 5,500 sq. ft., contributing to its ranking as the 15th hardest course on Tour in 2024.
🙈 Driving Distance (avg. 12th) and Proximity to Hole (avg. 12th) are key. Players who hit it longer do better at TPC Sawgrass. That’s not our opinion. That’s data. We are single-handedly trying to bust the myth that players must be straight and in play off the tee. If there is only one thing you take away from this, let it be that.
🐼Only Martin Kaymer, in 2014, has held a first-round lead with an afternoon tee time since 2010. For those looking to bet on this market, target the early groups on Thursday.
The Players Championship Golf Prize Money
𒁏 With golf Players Championship prize money totalling $25 million and a cool $4,500,000 to the winner, it looks set to retain its place as the richest golf tournament in the world, notably larger than all four majors.
To quote the eloquent Kelis, the milkshake brings all the boys to the yardཧ, with the PGA Tours’ best on show. From a betting perspective, the bookies will have heightened coverage, which is great for bonuses, promotions, and an increased range of betting markets, but conversely, sharper golf betting odds for The Players Championship.
The Players Championship Free Bets & Promotions
𒁏 If you’re using our Players Championship tips or you’ve used our data-driven research to find picks of your own, make sure you take advantage of the free bets and promotions below. Doing so adds huge value to your picks, and who doesn’t love something for free?

The Players Championship Golf Betting Markets
One of the best things about The Players is the coverage. It’s like a major, only without the prestige. The bookies will go to town with betting markets, so expect to see more than your regular golf bettingജ Tour event. Here are ten notables to look out for.
♎ As easy as it gets. Pick the winner of the tournament. Even though this is one of the most popular golf betting markets, it can be tricky to call, with fields of up to 160 at The Players and the sheer quality within the field.
♈ A two-part bet. Half your stake is on the player to win, and half is on them to place. The number of places paid will vary depending on the bookie. Odds are determined as a fraction of the win bet, usually between 1/4 and 1/6 odds.
🐓 Reduce the variance by betting on the winner of 2 or 3-ball pairings. For example, a 2-ball might be Rory McIlroy v Shane Lowry. Depending on the betting market type, you’re picking the player with the lowest score for the round or the tournament.
𒉰 Similar to 2/3 ball betting, but these matchups aren’t necessarily in the same group. It’s a good way for bookies to create hypothetical head-to-heads with players who are similar in form or outright winner odds. Again, you must choose the player with the lowest score for the bet to win.
All you need for this is to pick the player leading after the first round. If there are multiple players tied, then dead heat rules will apply.
♏ Can someone lead all four rounds before cashing a $4.5 million cheque? Well, this market is for you. It’s extremely hard to call but can add value to a short-priced favourite. We’re looking at you, Mr. Scheffler.
This market excludes the favourite from outright winner bets, with odds adjusted accordingly. For example, if you bet on a without Scottie Scheffler𒈔 market and he wins the tournament, the winner would be paid based on the player in second place.
💫 Choose how many shots the winner will win by. Some bookies have this as single-digit shots, and some will allow you to pick ranges of shots (E.G., 1-2, 3-4, etc.) for golf betting on The Players Championship.
൩ You can choose between multiple outcomes and markets for individual players. For example, if you were betting on Colin Morikawa, you could select a top 5/10/20 finish, 1st round leader, each-way bets, enhanced wins and odds to make a hole-in-one.
ꦇ Did you know that, on average, there is a hole-in-one made every other tournament on the PGA Tour? Well, now you can bet on exactly that. Most bookies will have this as a “field” bet, where all players are included, but you can also make individual bets as well, significantly increasing the odds.
