infographic on football statistics facts

The importance of statistics can’t go overlooked in the world of sports betting. As a result, we at TPP have developed our stats centre to meet all your statistical needs when it comes to football. Our porta♎l provides all the numbers yo💟u require from competitions and leagues all over the world.

Serie A is drenched in history and has enjoyed multiple golden eras. The modern iteration may no longer boast the star power of the 90s,ﷺ but it’s undoubtedly an exciting and un♐predictable division to watch.

T🧸he fall of Juventus as the league’s🥀 supreme force has improved Serie A as a spectacle, and there have been three different winners of the title since Juve last claimed victory in 2020. Simone Inzaghi’s Inter won the league at a canter last season after Napoli dazzled in 2022/23. Inter look set to repeat their success in 2024/25, but you can never write off a dark horse emerging from the abyss.

With multiple tabs to work through, our stats centre is all you need to familiarise yourself with calcio.

The ‘Betting Stats’ tab provides the data for markets typically offered by Serie A bookmakers. For example, data is supplied for various goals markets, including both teams to score (BTTS). Plus, the tables are ever so easy to interpret. On the BTTS tab, we provide the percentage of ᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚ⁤⁤⁤⁤ᩚ⁤⁤⁤⁤ᩚ⁤⁤⁤⁤ᩚ𒀱ᩚᩚᩚgames in which both teams have scored during the ongoing season. There’s similar data for BTTS & Win markets, as well as BTTS in both the first- and second halves.

By using TPP’s betting stats, you can make more informed betting decisions. For instance, 61% of Milan’s Serie A games last season saw both teams scoring. While you should be wary that Milan are undeജr new management heading into the 2024/25 season, such numbers would’ve suggested last season that their matches were more likely than not to have both teams scoring.

Separate home and away Serie A stats are provided for the array of different metrics and markets we supply, and it’s important to delineate between the two. Using the aforementioned example, while only 47% of Milan’s home matches had both teams scoring, 74% of th𒀰eir away outings did. That’s a huge swing that would greatly affect your betting strategy.

Players make the football world go round. Our Serie A player’s stats section is on♋e of the best you’ll find online, and 🅘we have tons of markets just waiting for you to explore.

Player stats can often be used for bet builders… we're sure we’ve all used a player market like ‘Lautaro Martinez anytime goalscorer’. If you do some extra research, these can add𒁃 loads of value.

There is a litany of different statistics available as part of our Serie A stats centre. Beyond goals, you can look at shots on target, fouls, cards, and passing statistics. Bookmakers allow punters to include an array of player stats markets as part of their bet builders — from⛦ passes completed to tackles made, so our stats centre will certainly come in handy when placing such bets.

🌌 We also recommend you break each statistic down into per 90 minutes to get an average figure, which is more useful when bet𒁏ting on an individual Serie A match.

Serie A Top Scorers

We may no longer be in the golden era of trequartisti and number nines, but Serie A is still home to a fair share of elite marksm✃en.

Lautaro Martinez has forged quite the reputation at title holders Inter, Marcus Thuram shone during his debut season at San Siro, Victor Osimhen was Capocannoniere two seasons ago, and Dusan Vlahovic remainꦦs a highly cove🌺ted forward asset at Juventus.

Overall, you should not buy into the narrative tha🌄t Serie A is a dull and dreary division. While 🔯it remains tactical and occasionally slow (particularly when the big teams meet), goals are scored at a rate similar to the other premier divisions in Europe.

Serie A Goalkeeper Stats

Boasting the ꦬlikes of Dino Zoff, Gianluigi Buffon, and Gianluigi Donnarumma, Italy have consistently been able to proꦓduce some of the greatest goalkeepers of all time.

The ever-increasing popularity of bet builders means bookies offer punters more choice in terms of markets, and goalkeeper stats such as saves can now be included. It’s easy to gauge the premier shot-stoppers in Se𒈔rie A via our stats hub, but it’s worth noting that the best t⛄eams don’t necessarily boast the most active goalkeepers.

In fact, only three of the top ten𒅌 goalkeepers who made the most saves in Serie A last season played for teams that finished in the top half. Superior teams are more likely to have better defences, and their goalkeepers are less likely to be worked on a game-by-game basis.

Of course, when placing goalkeeper bets, it’s important that you analyse the op꧟ponents and how prolific they are in attack, too.

If you think of any bet, we probably have stats for it! With over 30 different betting markets and dozens of submarkets to choose from, the possibilities are endless. Some o🧔f the most popular ones inc🌸lude:

The 2024/25 Serie A season will once again throw up plenty of intrigue with several contenders aiming to dethrone Inter at the tꦉop of the table. Calcio giants Milan and Juventus are reinventing themselves with new ideas at the forefront, while Napoli can never be ruled out with Antonio Conte in charge. Oh, and how about Roma with Daniele De Rossi and t🌱heir exciting-looking squad? Could they mount a charge?

If Inter stroll to the title again, the to🔥p four race will be exhilarating!

Our Serie A team stats tab offers an endless list of figures that 🐭can help you understand styles and tendencies. The data ensures🤡 you're better informed, thus increasing the likelihood of placing more accurate wagers on Serie A matches.

Still searching for some added stats? The Serie A profit and loss statistics page could be just what you need.

Serie A Goals per Match

The Italians were 🅘pioneers of ‘catenaccio’ (door bolt in English), which focused on defensive rigidity, man-marking, and sweeping. Helenio Herrera’s ‘Grande 🥀Inter’ and Nereo Rocco’s Milan were two of the most successful units to adopt such a system, with Italian football being dominated by what was regarded by commentators as a revolutionary but ultimately primitive system.

Cou🥀nter-revolutionaries have worked hard to provide a more swashbuckling style to the Italian game, and we can now safely say that while some catenaccio principles remain, the system in its entirety is wildly outdated.

Serie A has continued to pride itself on stout defending and tactical mastery, but there are plenty of goals, too! The division hasn’t averaged fewer than two goals per game since 1980/81, and under 2.5 si⛄nce 2000. An average of 2.61 were scored in 2023/24.

Serie A is now home to some of the game’s brightest minds that adopt Cruyffian principles synonymous with front-footed, attacking football. Thiago Motta and Vincenzo Italiano’s teams are amon💞g those that will entertain, while Simone Inzaghi’s Inter scored 89 goals last season.

Serie A Corner Stats

Corner betting has been a part of the average football bett🧸ing strategy for some time, with its promin๊ence sky-rocketing following the introduction of online betting.

There are various corner markets typically available on Serie A matches, including the popular over/under. Our Serie A stats hub provides up-to-date data for every team in the division🥀 regarding their corner statistics, including how many on average they take and surrender per match.

Teams that sustain attacks and dominate ball possession in the opposition’s half tend t🥂o win more corners than those that surrender territory and focus on counterattacking. Our stats centre also provides a percentage for the number of games in wh𒁏ich each teams hits a certain number of corners.

Over the past three Serie A seasons, the average number of corners per match hasn’t deviated too drastically. In 2023/24 and 2021/22, thereℱ were 9.6 on average, and 9.4 in 2022/23.

Serie A Penalty Stats

Between 1 January 2🧔020 and 1 April 2023, a penalty was awarded in Serie A every 235 minutes – the seventh-highest rate across all UEFA leagues and highest among Europe’s top five leagues.

The figures were sky-high again last seas🐻on, with 129 spot-kicks being awarded in 380 matchesꦍ.

Some might point to the supposed ‘defensive nature’ of the division, but a more significant factor in the frequent number of penalties is the harsh implementation of the video assistant referee (VAR). Italian officials are much more willing to award penalties for seeminไgly minor offences, with players being harshly p🥃unished, in particular, for soft handball offences.

With the🍌 technology ensuring that goalkeepers stay on their line during the penalty run-up, takers are now more likely to succeed. The penalty conversion rate in Serie A last season was as high as 79% – the sixth-highest in Europe.

The likelihood of a penalty being awarded in a Serie A match should influence who you place goalscorer bets on. Penalty takers are often likely to get a 💦chance to score. And no player scored more Serie A penalties last season than Inter’s Hakᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚ⁤⁤⁤⁤ᩚ⁤⁤⁤⁤ᩚ⁤⁤⁤⁤ᩚ𒀱ᩚᩚᩚan Calhanoglu (10).

serie a penalty stats infographic

Italian referees have gained a reputation for being pretty card-happy, and the stats certainly back that up. Between the 2015/16 and 2019/20 seasons, Serie A referees handed out an – the 🐎eighth-highest rate out of all UEFA leagues, only behind Spain among the continent’s top five divisions.

This figure has declined in recent seasons, but Se🎉rie A referees have still issued more than 4.5 cards per match over the 🅠last three campaigns.

These figures are important when betting on Serie A markets such as cards or fou🌳ls committed. Individual referee statistics are important, too, as particular officials have a greater tendency to turn to their pocket and penalise players. Andrea Colombo, for example, handed out a whopping average of 6.36 cards over 14 Serie A matches last season. On the contrary, Michael Fabbri, who officiated nine games, averaged 3.66.

So, while the league average for cards is high, each referee is different, so do ✤take that into accou⛎nt when placing bets on individual Serie A matches.

The standings are often a gem hidden in plain sight, possibly offering insight into a team’s form and level within the league.

Our page goes the extra mile with a form guide, showing a team’s results over the last five games. Green circles depict wins, red circles are losses, while grey circles are draws. Some🐬times, the Serie A table will not provide the full picture. A team may be X places higher than another, but you may be taking a risk to beat the opponent in question if they’re heading into a matchཧ having lost three of their previous five games.

For Serie A 2024/25, it’ll take a little ꦏwhile to gauge trends and patterns. We don’t rec𓆉ommend using last season’s data when trying to work out a team’s form.

In search of predictive tools? Many sites like Kickform.com use statistics to genera൩te relatively accurate predictions.

The Serie A is slowly climbing its way back to its glory days, with fiercer competition and more exciting football than ever. Keeping up with the fixtures could be tricky, and that’🏅s whereᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚ⁤⁤⁤⁤ᩚ⁤⁤⁤⁤ᩚ⁤⁤⁤⁤ᩚ𒀱ᩚᩚᩚ our fixtures table comes in.

You will find all you need to keep up to date, along with which bookie is offering the best odds for the Serie A mꦚatches. Moreover, we provide kick-of🍬f times, and by clicking the ‘Round X’ tab, you can access any matchday in the 2024/25 Serie A season.

The league’s entire schedule for 2024/25 was released in July, although kick-off times for fixture﷽s later in the season are subject to change.

Every sports bettor will succumb to a hunch or instinct — we all think our ‘gut’ knows ౠbest. And while there may be times where mere hunches pay off, relying on these is simply not sustainable in the long run.

You should use data to complement what you already know. There’s no denying that statistical analysis𓃲 is incredibly useful for football betting; what do you think bookies use when they’re setting their odds — hunches or numbers?

Data-Driven Betting Decisions

The use of statistics 𝔍reduces the advantage bookieꦗs have over you, evening out the playing field. If you’re able to analyse patterns and trends based on data, you’re simply more likely to predict what could occur in a game.

There are things that happen in a football match that can be missed by the eye, but t꧃he data is always recorded. Let's say you want to place a corners bet on a Serie A match between Fiorentina and Genoa, how does your ‘gut’ plan on helping you out? The data will always be the🌌re for you to interpret, assess, and analyse.

Stats are possibly the single best way to boost your chances of betting successfully, because let's face it, numbers don’t lie. Our Serie A stats hub is your tru♕sty treasure map to create well-informed bets on I💧talian football and discover the best places to do so!

Sit back and enjoy the ride, because you can always eಞxp🦩ect chaos in Serie A!

Having won the competition 36 times, Juventus is by far the mo🅠st successful team in the Serie A. They also won nine consecutive titles between 2011 and 2020.

The Serie A first expanded to 20 clubs for the 1946-47ꦰ season, but reverted back to 16 or 18 teams until it re-expanded to 20 in 2004. It has been the same ever since.

It’s a close co꧟ntest between Milan and Internazionale as they both look for their 20th league title. They’re both on 18 points, having won six and lost one. Inter have the better goal difference.

Although the Calciopoli scandal tainted their legacy, the biggest club in Serie A history is Juventus, with by far the most Scudetto titles — 36 and counting. The biggest Italian club, howeve🦩r, is arguably Milan, with seven Champions Leagues and 19 league titles.

The biggest win hꦉappened all the way back in 1948, a 10 – 0 win by Torino FC against US Alessandria Calcio.

Silvio Piola has scored the most Serie A goals ever with 274 in 537 games. Lautaro Martin💛ez is the current Capocannoniere hol🎉der after scoring 24 goals for Inter during the 2023/24 season.
